I have been in Khmer Rouge before and I got a really bad punishment at that time they told me to build the dam from the early morning to evening. My family was gone through that time and I also adopted a child because I didn’t have family.
I am working at Mondulkiri as a construction worker. One day, one of my neighbors called me and I was very shocked knowing that my house is burned. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do anything because I was 273 kilometers far away!! I’m worried about my wife who lives with a cripple but luckily the kids near the house carry her and she’s safe now.
“Every day my life is still the same either happy or sad. I am an automobile mechanic with one eye but I still continue my journey to the future I won’t stop what I do and I will be positive on everything that has suffered me”
“As a single mother who was in Svay Rieng for a wedding and heard that my house is fired, I was worried about nothing else but my 18 years old daughter. Every properties that have was burned, but at least we are all save.”
“My first child is a babysitter at Phnom Penh which is far from where I live. My second child is a motorbike washer. My third child is illiterate. He failed his study and lives without education. It gives me very hard time. I became sick and was diagnosed with scoliosis. I vomited for 3 months long. My first child rarely visits me and I miss her so bad. I think I would’ve died by now. Luckily, a Christian group came here and helped me go to hospital and receive medicine. Because of them I feel better and am glad that I’m alive”
My husband’s legs were amputated but he worked hard for our family as a mechanic and hairdresser. Our family lost him 10 years ago and now my life depends on my children. I have my granddaughter in my hand and I would love to see her helping our family in the future.
“Right now I’m just a fish seller. In the future, I want to have a better job. But I couldn’t think of anything right now. It is very hard”
I was chatting with the neighbors near my house, leaving my sister with a cripple at the house. Suddenly, I saw a huge smoke up in the air, assuming that the community got burned. I rushed as fast as I can to save my sister’s life. That’s my first priority seeing her safe.
“The rest of my family all are died only me that still alive, can you imagine how it hurt?”
